Horror Film music
Music is a very important part in a horror film as it helps to create a specific mood and is used to increase fear levels and tension.
some of the common conventions are:
- long suspenseful notes often help contrast with short sharp notes to help shock the audience.
-extremes but intentional changes of pitch tones. For example low long brass notes which suddenly change to very high fast pitched notes to make the audience feel immediately tense.
Without music the horror would decrease dramatically and it would completely dull the fear factor.
Camera Shots
Extreme long shot: This is also known as a establishing shot, it
normally shows an exterior e.g. landscape or the outside of a
building. There will be very little detail visible in the shot, its
meant to give a general impression rather than specific
information.
Long shot: This shot shows the entire object or human figure,
whilst the focus is on characters it still shows plenty of
background. the long shot is used to set the scene in a film.
The long shot should be a locked shot so no movement of any
sort.

its most likely been shown in a shot before.

extreme detail, its used to allow the viewer to reveal certain
characteristics and emotions that would get unoticed from
afar.
Types of camera movement
Tilting is a cinematographic technique in which the camera is stationary and rotates in a vertical plane (or tilting plane). A rotation in a horizontal plane is known as panning. Tilting the camera results in a motion similar to someone nodding their head "yes" or to an aircraft performing a pitch rotation.

Pedestal means moving the camera up or down without changing its vertical or horizontal axis. A camera operator can do two types of pedestals: pedestal up means "move the camera up;" pedestal down means "move the camera down." You are not tilting the lens up, rather you are moving the entire camera up. Imagine your camera is on a tripod and you're raising or lowering the tripod head
The Purge
The Purge is an American horror film which is based on the plot of criminal activity being legal including murder becoming legal for 12 hours. It was released in 2013. The purge had a budget of $3,000,000 (estimated), in the opening weekend it made $34,058,360.
I think the film is different from a lot of horror films because I think the idea isn't like a lot of horror films which are mainly about ghosts and supernatural. The plot is different from other films which would attract Audiences everywhere, one thought which could attract people is 'what if crime was legalised in real life'. this could make a lot of people interested.
In the first 2 minutes of the film it starts with the universal title and then there is a short clip of Blumhouse productions. It then shows various clips of recent annual purges that have commenced in recent years.
The music they used is piano style music. There is various clips shown of purges that have happened in previous years, the audience don't hear the sound from the clips but music that is played over, the music is a quite
The film starts with universal.

The lighting that have used here could be telling us that the film is dark and doesn't used much light. They have put the Blumhouse purposely by the H on the corner of a room and the H is representing a house which could give us an image of what we think the film could be about.
